December 17, 2013

It’s that time of year again (ALREADY!) where we look at the past year and all that we accomplished and then look forward to what is next.

One of the books I am reading, Eat that Frog, recommends that you have goals that are written down and prioritized. So I started the first crack at that.  And one of the things that I am now working with is the degree to which my goals need to be aligned with my husbands. Should they be 100% the same? As in should we both be working toward the same list. There is some real value in that. For example, if we are both working on having our health work out I know that I will be much more successful. But then again I don’t want to not be able to make health a goal if he wasn’t interested on focusing on it.

The theme for 2014 is Health and Wealth. After having a baby there has been havoc wreaked on my body and I want to get it all back and better. And this is also the year that I take on money. There is a way to make a great income online and I am going to make that happen this year.

Stay tuned.

To the top!

Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income Podcast and website has a Niche site duel, Katie referenced it and had her application on an earlier post…

I also applied to get into the mastermind group and to our total surprise we were both rejected! After licking my wounds I have decided to get back in the game. The point of the game is to choose a keyword in Google and be the number one ranked page.

I chose the word “Addict” and the site This week I am going to start building out the site and see where I stack up. So currently I am ranked at “N/A.” This makes sense, there is no content on the site yet and I am not even sure I have it set up to be crawled by Google. Great place to start.

The point of this site is to:  Provide people with addiction and their family members a great source of information.
I want to accomplish this in multiple ways. The first way is educating people in all the ways to get help. Currently getting help for people with addiction issues is challenging because for the most part you have to be either very wealthy to afford the rehab centers or you have to end up in jail with a court mandated rehab. There are many great centers that support both of these groups but not enough! Another way is to offer inspirational stories about overcoming addiction and highlight these folks. It’s all very much in start up and creation mode but I am very excited to share the journey with you.

Tweeting for Dummies

How to Use Twitter

I think one of the coolest things about getting older is that I realize how little I know. AND because I really do know so much (project management, algebra, social psychology, who starred in the 1989 film Teen Witch), I don’t have to be a defensive B@#&* when I really DON’T know something.

The jist of all that is – I love getting older and learning new stuff which in this case is ‘How to Use Twitter.’

I spent this past weekend at the Laptop Millionaire Summit in Boulder, CO where I learned how to use Twitter.  It was an awesome weekend and I walked away with an odd desire to tweet.  I don’t know if it was because that little bird is so cute or because Twitter is a massively powerful business tool that gives me access to 554,750,000 people, growing by 135k people a day, but I was inspired and started a Twitter account at the conference, right there in my seat.

By the end of day one I had three followers.  Day two I had 7. Right now I have ten and am totally hooked.  This is a fun game.  My new goal is to have 1,000 Twitter followers by 8/1/2013!

If you want to learn more about Twitter basics, watch the video above.  And if you want to support me in my goal to reach 1,000 followers by 8/1/13 you can find me at @moguljk.  I promise to share inspiration, business tips, tricks and tools and all-around-awesomeness.

MITM Daily Creation Call #29

Hello world!

Jessica is really living life. I am now in my third trimester and I just can’t wait to see my baby!! But in the mean time I got some stuff to do. I spent the weekend in beautiful Chesapeke Bay and it really reinforced my want to be location independent with my career. I do feel that I am moving in that direction. I also feel like its never going to happen and I am going to be stuck back in desk jockey position. Alas, I think those thoughts are very normal. Lots to do today, including putting this all in my calendar and actually following the timeline of the day I created… just for fun. I haven’t scheduled myself in a whole day, for awhile. So lets see how it goes! Yay!

Today’s items are:

1. Discuss property with agent
2. Complete 2 calls with R & G
3. Work on supplemental income
4. Identify a network and schedule to go
5. 500 plan update

Hi!  There was NO reality in my schedule.  I was just doing or not doing things willy-nilly.  I can’t beleive I just said that! What is going to allow me to be successful is ACTION and so I am promising one meaningful work thing a day.  That is probably appropriate because it turns out everything takes WAY longer than I think it is going to, but that is to be expected since I am doing pretty much everything for the first time.  So promises for the day are now going to be 1 major thing and maybe some minutea;)

1. Write my about page
2. Call Gayle, Dad and Michael
3. Decide if I am going to CO

500 Plan update 3

Life, life, life it just keeps happening so fast… I didn’t update for 3 weeks!! Bad Jessica…. Here you go…

goals, planning, actualAs of 06/26 here are how we stack up against our goals:

1. $500 (P)lan : $0 (A)ctual – No money, no plans of how we will make money on this site. So I am not sure this goal is realistic anymore. We have put ZERO effort into this goal… which is not really the plan.

2. 500 Followers (P) : 26  (A) – A few more followers in the last few weeks. Interesting. I can see that we have not been putting in the effort to actually make this site exciting and grabbable.

3. 150 posts/podcasts/interviews live (P) : 53 (A) – This means we are a little behind. But no need to worry yet. We will get back on the horse, here.

In the last few weeks lots of life has been happening. And sometimes that distracts you from what you are doing. I can definitely say that has been the case for me. I am now complete with my previous employment and creating new sources of income that will provide the new cashflow that I am up to making. Katie is also on her way in developing her very own podcast that will inspire the nation! Looking forward to that getting live!

Hello world!

Katie learned that she is sometimes TOTALLY out of touch with reality.  I mean I have no idea how long it is going to take to do what I have to do.  None!  I think something is going to take an hour it takes 3 to do half of it.  I don’t even really know when things are done.  I have talked about this before but they say fail to plan, plan to fail.  What no one says is  plan on your plan failing which is what I have seen happen most – lol.  DISCLAIMER:  I do not have a super significant relationship to failure, so I am in no way dis-empowered by that last statement.  If my statement “plan on your plan failing” upsets or triggers something in you.  You may want to look at your relationship with failure as it is likely you are making it mean something about who you are as a person that plans don’t work out as planned.

Today’s items are:

1. Buy podcasting hardware
2. Spend 1 hour developing my timeline
3. Post poll on FB about names

Jessica has learned that pregnant ladies have hormones. 🙂 The last few days have been a real release of emotions for me. With my job ending the way that it did, I didn’t get the opportunity to say goodbye to people. I also am nervous about what I am creating next around my future business. I am also six months pregnant, this weekend actually marks the end of my second trimester and I am definitely feeling the crazy, or I guess I should really say my friends are. Thank god for good friends who will endure your strange, neurotic pregnancy woes. Yesterday and Monday I did get everything done on my list. I listened to 14 hours of podcasts! Whew! And had a great call with the woman in sober living and got some more contacts in San Diego.

Today’s items are:

1. Complete with G
2. Prepare for departure and schedule ride from airport
3. Present for father in law

MITM Daily Creation Call #27

Hello world!

Katie did it all this weekend.  However, one of my actions was to take MASSIVE ACTION on my podcast.  I am not sure that I completed that because I don’t even know what that means.  Now the reason that I wrote that action is because i didn’t know what to commit to and instead of figuring that out I said something vague – LOL!  What I can see now is that is not going to allow me to get anything accomplished/completed.  Time to start making SMART (Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic and Timely) actions.

Today’s SMART promises are:

1. Buy domain name
2. Write down vision
3. Create template email
4. Create timeline

Jessica had a very productive weekend. Jessica is now officially a free agent. And fully dedicating herself to becoming a successful mompreneur. This first week out on my own is a perfect test case. I am committed to being location independent and I am going to DC on Thursday and Friday. I know that I will not be able to get in full 8 hour work days but how can I efficiently use and hour here and there to keep things moving forward.

Today’s items are:

1. Schedule my visit to Long Beach
2. Call Sober Living woman
3. Review former podcasts
4. Create a structure for success.

Hello world!

Katie did everything that she said – YAY!!! My birthday was great.  It was relaxing and intimate and I LOVED IT!  The main thing I learned yesterday was from listening to the podcast of The Suitcase Entrepreneur.  She interviewed the ladies who started Activyst which was a crowd sourced bag company and it was a great interview.  I learned all about what it takes to successfully launch a product on Indiegogo or Kickstarter.

Today’s items are:

1. Apply to Fire Nation Elite
2. Schedule the next bonfire  and ladies night
3. Take massive action around Be the Change
4. Jello wrestling

Jessica did go to the inspection and learned all about her property.  It was good and whhoooaaa there is a lot to do.  There was some termite presence that the owner has to deal with prior to close.  And there are some significant things that need to be handled by us if we are going to get the house as up to date as they could be.  There is a lot to learn and know when buying a house.

Today’s items are:

1. Set-up keyboard and start practicing
2. Go through disclosures and setup inspections for next week
3. Call longtime sober living person and talk to her about being your QB

Have a great weekend,

Hello world!

OMG – It’s my birthday!!!  I am soooo excited.  I am going to be working for 4 hours and then my day is all mine:)  I will be getting a pedicure, working out, having a bonfire and more and the best part is that I am already in the best mood, feeling loved and COMPLETELY present to how amazing my life is.  Yesterday I had coffee with John Dumas – AMAZING!  And it was really fun.  My is the awesome adventure that I am excited to continue to discover.

Today’s items are:

1. Go to the gym
2. Don’t do ANY work I don’t want to

Jessica is really taking on her style and communication in regards to business. I am in a relationship seminar and looking at where my communication is not sufficient for creating the kind of empire that I want to create. So that I can make a difference on a global scale. Today I am focusing on the property I am in escrow with and getting everything reviewed so my husband and I can discuss the options this weekend. AND I am going to celebrate my girl, Miss Katie tonight! We are going to heat it up at a bonfire! Yay! First bonfire since I have been in San Diego.

Today’s items are:

1. Inspection
2. Go to Katie’s birthday

What’s holding you back?

Are day dream about your unicorn?  Don’t look at your computer like I am crazy.  You know what I am talking about!

I am talking about that illusive fabled career or business that you want to start.  You know the one that you are sure will fulfill your life and have all of your troubles fade to the background of your  life?

Here is what I want to know:

  • What is that job/business?
  • What is in the way of you starting or pursuing it?
  • What would having that job/business make possible in your life?
  • How long have you been waiting?

Once you have answered those questions, I want you to answer:

  • What is the first action I could take toward my unicorn?
  • Who could hold me accountable for or what structure would support me in taking that action?
  • Who do I know who is doing something like __(insert your unicorn here)__?

There you are!  Now you have a plan.  Do you know what is missing?

No!  Well don’t fret – I do.  The only thing that is missing now is ACTION!

Smart people have long said, “Fail to plan, plan to fail.”  And while that may be true, you are going to fail anyway.  I mean really, it is just part of the journey of starting something be it a new hobby, job, business or relationship.  Failures will teach you what you need to learn.  If you adopt that mentality, you could look foward to the failures.  You could swing full out in life knowing that whatever you needed to learn would be brought to your attention.

Planning may be important, but action is imperative.  No action, no results – PERIOD!  End of story.

So now what?  What are you going to take action on, and by when?
